Hatfield is recognized as an industry leader in the management and protection of aquatic resources. Our team of biologists, hydrologists, ecologists, water resource engineers, and regulatory experts bring the bench strength necessary to successfully implement all aspects of fish and fish habitat assessment, protection, and offsetting.

Our capabilities include:

  • Managing aquatic resources assessments in support of provincial and federal Environmental Assessment Certifications.
  • Providing informed guidance on laws and regulations related to fish habitat to manage risk and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Designing and overseeing the construction of habitat offsetting initiatives and developing and implementing effectiveness monitoring programs.
  • Conducting instream and environmental flow needs assessments.
  • Detailed habitat mapping using drone image analysis and ground-truthing techniques.
  • Genetic analysis for fish population characterization, including species at risk determinations.
  • Tissue contaminant monitoring and ecological and human health risk assessments.

Our specialists remain current with all relevant laws and regulations related to fish habitat to ensure we effectively manage client risks and maintain regulatory compliance.

Why Hatfield?

Our thorough knowledge of fisheries science and the Canadian regulatory landscape is integral to the support of our diverse range of clients and their projects. We provide sound strategic advice while navigating projects through complex regulatory processes, and we have a proven track record of delivering robust assessment, offsetting, and restoration plans that satisfy the requirements and expectations of reviewing agencies.
