Background:
The Meikle Wind Energy Project is a 180 MW wind farm near Tumbler Ridge, BC. The project involved the installation of 61 turbines that generate enough energy to meet the needs of 54,000 homes. Hatfield was retained by Pattern Energy to lead the Environmental Assessment Certification (EAC) submission process for the project. Subsequent to the successful approval of the project Hatfield entered into additional contracts with Pattern for permitting and environmental management.
Services Provided:
Hatfield has provided environmental support to this project from pre-construction, through its construction and into the ongoing operations phase. From the construction phase onward Hatfield has worked closely with Pattern Energy to build and maintain productive, ongoing relationships with five First Nation communities whose traditional territory is overlapped by the project, including Doig River and Halfway River First Nations, McLeod Lake Indian Band, and Saulteau and West Moberly First Nations. During construction, Hatfield trained and managed the involvement of numerous Indigenous environmental monitors. Hatfield continues to manage communications and engagement between Pattern and the Nations including the ongoing involvement of Indigenous environmental monitors and coordination of Indigenous environmental monitors and technicians on various field components and delivering annual environmental monitoring summary reports.
