The 3 Nations Society is a partnership between the Kaska Dena, Tahltan First Nation, and Taku River Tlingit Nation to advance social policy and innovation for the Nations and their members. A flagship initiatives of the 3 Nations Society involved working with the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship (MWLRS, formerly Forests, Land, Natural Resources Operations and Rural Development) under the Collaborative Stewardship Framework (CSF) initiated in 2018.
The CSF was a pilot program to co-design approaches for the shared management of resource values combining Indigenous and western knowledge. The 3 Nations Forum was one of five CSF forums established to test how information reflecting Western and Indigenous knowledge can enhance natural resource decision-making through collaboration and prioritizing stewardship. The innovative approach to shared decision-making focused on three program areas: Governance and Capacity, Guardian Programs, and Specific Projects.
Services Provided:
Hatfield was hired to assist with communication of the implementation and achievements of the 3 Nations CSF forum in general and the Guardianship Program in particular. Hatfield was responsible for providing direction and developing branding initiatives for the delivery of several communication products and documents (including a new 3 Nations Society CSF forum logo), project management and facilitating engagement between the 3 Nations Society and the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship. Over several months we engaged regularly with the forum’s technical advisory committee which included representation from the ministry and the three Nations.
Hatfield collaboratively developed both narrative content, graphic design and a CSF specific logo. An information brochure was shared online to help raise awareness of the stewardship forum and its work.
