Launch of the French version of the Nile river awareness kit

The final version of the Nile River Awareness Kit (Nile RAK) is now available online in both French and English: nteap.nilebasin.org/nrak/. This multimedia and interactive learning tool encourages increased knowledge and awareness regarding the resources of the Nile Basin, and the potential for utilizing Earth Observation to support improved environmental management.

The French version of the Nile River Awareness Kit (Nile RAK) was recently completed and showcased as part of the 1st Annual Nile Day Celebrations in Kigali, Rwanda. The Honorable President of Rwanda, H.E Kagame was the Key Note Speaker at the Nile Day Celebrations, which was attended by the Nile RAK Project Manager, Ms. Erin Johnston. The French version of the Nile RAK CD-ROM was showcased at the Nile Day celebrations and launched at a workshop in Kigali, Rwanda on February 23rd, 2007.

Training programs have been conducted with 200 participants from the nine Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) countries, including teachers, journalists, government representatives, environmental managers, researchers, and non-for-profit groups. These participants are now using the Nile RAK CD to conduct environmental education and awareness programs in their respective organizations.

The Nile RAK is a collaborative partnership between the Nile Transboundary Environmental Action Project (NTEAP) of the NBI and a project team led by Hatfield Consultants (Hatfield; West Vancouver, BC). The Nile RAK CD-ROM was funded by the Canadian Space Agency’s Earth Observation Application Development Program (EOADP) under the TIGER initiative.
