Hatfield presents innovative aquaculture products at Aqua2006 in Florence, Italy
Jun 07, 2006
In May 2006, Hatfield featured Earth Observation-based products and services for the aquaculture industry at Aqua2006, the worldwide meeting of the European Aquaculture Society (EAS) and the World Aquaculture Society (WAS). The meeting featured the latest in products and services for the aquaculture industry in Europe, Canada, USA, the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, and the rest of the world.
A seminar titled “Environmental Information System for Harmful Algal Bloom Monitoring – Based in Earth Observation Technology” was presented by Hatfield and our collaborators ACRI-st, Apolloni Virtual Studios (AVS), DHI, and European Space Agency (ESA). The seminar highlighted an information system that was developed for the Chilean Aquaculture Project (CAP) funded by ESA. The system is designed to improve the management of aquaculture facilities by using an information framework for near real-time earth observation (EO) data from satellites and in situ environmental monitoring data. The system is designed to improve monitoring of potentially harmful algal blooms (HABs) through a customized Internet portal.
The CAP project was funded by ESA under the Call for Innovative Earth Observation Market Development Actions (EOMD). The project was targeted at the rapidly expanding aquaculture industry, particularly farmers of Atlantic salmon, trout, coho salmon, and mussels.
