Hatfield monitors the Mekong
Jan 24, 2004
The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) awarded HCL a three-year contract in December 2003 for the ‘Earth Observation and Geomatics Support for Flood Management and Environmental Monitoring’ project. The project is designed to support the November 2002 MOU signed between the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), the Canadian Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS) and the Mekong River Commission (MRC).
The goal of the project is to further develop effective use of Earth Observation (EO) and Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies for information dissemination and environmental management in the Mekong Basin. This project will build upon previous project work conducted by HCL to develop an intranet for MRC staff with customized applications for flood management/human security, and wetland monitoring.
A Canadian team led by Hatfield Consultants Ltd. (HCL; Vancouver, Canada) will implement the project, supported by the CARTEL (a multifaculty research centre within the University of Sherbrooke) (Montreal, Quebec), Strata 360 (Montreal, Canada), and AERDE Environmental Research (Halifax, Canada).
Grant Bruce, Vice President of HCL said “This project is a natural extension of HCL’s previous project work providing the MRC with expertise in remote sensing, GIS and environmental management.”
