Aug 05, 2010
The South Fraser Perimeter Road Project is a public-private partnership between the provincial government and the Fraser Transportation Group (FTG) with an estimated budget of over $600 million. The new 41-kilometre, four-lane highway will run along the south side of the Fraser River, extending from Deltaport Way in southwest Delta to 176 Street (Highway 15) in Surrey. It has connections with the Trans-Canada Highway and Highways 91 and 99, as well as with Translink’s new Golder Ears Bridge connecting Langley and Maple Ridge. According to the province, the route will take a significant step towards improving Metro Vancouver’s major road network. It will benefit commuters, the trucking industry and tourists by connecting primary gateway facilities as well as facilitating access to borders, the Tsawwassen ferry terminal and the BC Interior.
The project includes significant environmental and agricultural mitigation and enhancement plans, with an estimated budget of between $57 million to $88 million. According to the province, “Work is underway by some of the best-known companies” and Hatfield Consultants is proud to be one of them. Hatfield is providing senior environmental management services to the Fraser Transportation Group, which is responsible for overall project delivery.
