Hatfield implementing environmental governance project in Viet Nam

In August 2003 HCL was awarded a sub-contract through the Danish Agency for Development Assistance (Danida) for the Environmental Information and Reporting (EIR) project. HCL is a sub-contractor to NIRAS Engineering Consultants of Copenhagen.

This project, supported through the Danish Environmental Assistance Programme to Việt Nam (DEA- Việt Nam), is based in the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE). The project was initiated with the goals of improving the flow of environmental information from various sources in Việt Nam, and enhancing the relevance of environmental reports.

Immediate objectives of the project are (1) “Improved relevance of environmental information and reporting in relation to its use in environmental management and decision-making”, and (2) “Improved timeliness (or responsiveness) of environmental information and knowledge to enable proactive response to environmental problems”. Underlying these objectives is an intention to provide more relevant and user-friendly information on environmental status to policy- and decision- makers and environmental managers in government, and to the general public. Attention will focus on freshwater, coastal marine waters, and air quality.
