Hatfield is currently seeking an experienced, dynamic, and technically proficient individual to provide leadership to our regional team in Terrace, BC. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of the environmental consulting market in Western Canada, particularly in Northwest BC. This knowledge should be backed by their technical and business development experience across various sectors such as mining, renewable power, infrastructure, oil and gas, as well as ports and marine industries.
Responsibilities
Management:
- Manage the Terrace office and sustainable growth of regional operations and staff.
- Supervise and mentor technical staff including conducting annual performance reviews and supporting staff with career development planning.
- Conduct business development and marketing activities to identify opportunities and encourage regional growth.
- Build and maintain meaningful relations and engagement with local Indigenous communities.
- Execute local recruitment and hiring.
- Monitor resource metrics and forecasting.
Technical:
- Provide senior technical and strategic direction with environmental permitting and management of projects and proposals, technical writing and project administration.
- Lead pursuits and preparation of technical and financial proposals.
- Collaborate with scientists and other project specialists along all Hatfield business groups to implement multi-disciplinary environmental assessment and management projects throughout the region.
- Manage project teams within Hatfield to ensure design and construction compliance with local, provincial, and federal environmental legislative and regulatory requirements for projects, including:
- serving as primary client contact;
- conducting the project management lifecycle;
- preparation and submission of necessary design/report documents;
- lead meetings/presentations with/to clients and regulators/interest groups;
- scheduling and budgeting (development and tracking);
- providing technical guidance on environmental protection and environmental permitting and licensing to developers and engineers.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree in environmental sciences or a relevant discipline.
- Eligible to obtain or have a professional designation, preferably in BC (e.g., RPBio, PAg, etc.).
- 10+ years of progressive work experience, leading and growing teams, client retention, business development, implementing and managing environmental aspects of projects.
Other Assets/Skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to lead and mentor new and existing staff.
- Experience operating in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility, problem solving and critical analysis.
- Aptitude and experience in project management and administration, including financial and human resource management.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Local knowledge and expertise are considered an asset.
- Familiarity with federal and provincial (BC) environmental regulatory and permitting requirements.
- Experience working in large, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong technical writing and editing skills.
- Experience in providing environmental design inputs for infrastructure projects, and able to work closely with design engineers in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Experience with a range of environmental disciplines (air quality, noise, surface and groundwater quality, soils, vegetation, fish and fish habitat, contaminated sites, archaeology, local Indigenous Nations, etc.) is an asset.
- A keen desire to join a group of talented environmental and social scientists working on challenging and thought-provoking projects.

Salary range: $120k – $175k. Please be advised, that in the course of our assessment of your qualifications, we retain the right to adjust the seniority classification of the position accordingly.
