Hatfield Consultants continues to grow, and we are pleased to introduce the following staff:
North Vancouver, BC
Alyssa McKinney, Marketing and Business Development Specialist – BA Psychology
Alyssa has 12 years of marketing experience that includes strategic planning, budgeting, event management, copy and article writing, design, business development, online marketing, marketing communications and email marketing. Alyssa joins our marketing group in North Vancouver.
Benjamin Smith, Geospatial/Remote Sensing Developer – MSc Computer Science
Ben’s software development experience includes utilizing deep learning and machine learning to analysis satellite imagery and health data. In addition to his degree in Computer Science, Ben also completed a diploma in Civil Engineering, and has taught workshops at coding camps for Indigenous youth. Ben joins our Geomatics group based out of our North Vancouver head office.
Bernard Gilbert, Project Manager, Indigenous Governance Software – MSc International Management & MBA
Bernard has over ten years of project management experience with a particular focus on projects affecting Indigenous communities, including experience with project finance, resource allocation, marketing, compliance and operations. Bernard possesses strong stakeholder engagement experience that helps to bridge the gap between technology and practical applications, making him a strong addition to our Environmental Information Systems group.
Brett Lucas, Senior Environmental Specialist – MSc Toxicology
Brett is an Environmental Toxicologist specializing in human health and ecological risk assessments, aquatic and marine toxicology, toxicity identification evaluations, and environmental impact assessments. Brett has over eight years of experience in environmental sciences and has managed projects that supported site-specific water quality objectives. In addition to leading environmental effects monitoring programs, he has also completed numerous human health and ecological risk assessments that supported applications for Certificates of Environmental Compliance from BC’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy. Brett joins our Environmental Monitoring and Assessment group in our North Vancouver head office.
Gillian Matthews, Senior Environmental Specialist – MSc Biodiversity and Conservation & MSc Applied Environmental Science (Hons)
Gillian has over eight years of environmental consultancy experience in Ireland and Canada. On top of her two Master’s degrees, Gillian also has a post graduate diploma in Environmental Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment Management. As a Project Manager, Gillian has experience managing, coordinating, and organizing daily activities and technical teams throughout the lifecycle of environmental assessment projects within British Columbia. She also has experience with permitting, regulatory compliance, and financial management of large projects such as LNG facilities and greenhouse gas terminals. Gillian joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management team in our North Vancouver head office.
Hannah Nieman, Environmental Technician – BSc Ecological Restoration
Hannah is a Registered Biologist Technologist with eight years of experience. She has previous experience with environmental monitoring for wildlife, birds, vegetation and fish and fish habitat assessments and has also assisted with some contaminated sites work. In addition, she has created comprehensive restoration and environmental planting plans, and worked on projects aimed at determining ecosystem health by conducting species at risk and vegetation surveys for habitat restoration. Hannah joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management group in our North Vancouver head office.
Jenna Keen, Environmental Technician – Master of Environmental Toxicology
Jenna comes to Hatfield with strong research experience related to the effects of the anti-sea lice chemotherapeutants on marine zooplankton. During her Master’s degree, she worked at the Kennedy Aquatic Toxicology Laboratory assisting with research and fieldwork for eelgrass, fish habitat, marine sediment collection, water quality and zooplankton, which involved examining, interpreting and analyzing data. Jenna also has experience as an on-board Marine Naturalist and most recently finished off a stock assessment program for Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Jenna joins our Environmental Monitoring and Assessment group in our North Vancouver head office.
Joleen Timko, Senior Social Science Specialist – PhD Forestry
Joleen is a social scientist with degrees in Forestry and Biology coupled with experience in Indigenous and community engagement and a proven history of informed decision-making on complex natural resource management issues. Joleen is an expert and advisor in the forestry and livelihoods domain, working with and providing guidance to stakeholders and partners at NGOs, government agencies, and universities in Asia, Africa, and North America. Joleen joins our Human Environment group based out of our North Vancouver head office.
Michael Oh, Environmental Technician – MSc Terrestrial and Aquatic Systems
Michael has previously worked as an Environmental Technician/Research Assistant for Environment and Climate Change Canada and the UBC Aquatics Research Lab. Michael joins our Construction Monitoring team within our Infrastructure and Environmental Management group, working out of our North Vancouver head office.
Mollie McDowell, Environmental Information Specialist – MSc Geological Sciences
Mollie has a strong background in data analysis and data management. In her recent position as a Data Manager for the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at the UBC Farm, Mollie developed and implemented organization-wide and project-specific protocols for managing research and operations data and metadata. She also has experience with spatial datasets and statistical analyses water quality and water balance data. Mollie will be working jointly with our Environmental Management and Assessment and Environmental Information Systems groups in our North Vancouver head office.
Robert Drummond, Environmental Technician – BSc Environmental
Robert has a solid background in environmental and marine data collection, both in the field and in the laboratory, including managing and analyzing long-term datasets. He has had the opportunity to do research in Madagascar, the Bahamas and in the United Kingdom. Robert joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management group in our North Vancouver head office.
Susan Nadler, Receptionist and Administration Assistant
Susan has over 20 years of reception, administrative and operations experience. She gained extensive administration experience working for the Justice Institute of BC, and more recently has held positions within the telecommunications and environmental consulting industries. Susan works in our North Vancouver head office, and therefore plays an integral role as the first point of contact for many of our clients, suppliers and new staff.

Karl Weise, Environmental Technician – MSc Environmental and Life Science
Karl recently graduated from Trent University where his master’s research focused on the movement of potamodromous fish using acoustic telemetry and environmental DNA. Karl has seven seasons of experience in Ontario and BC mainly focused on fish, riparian and in-stream fish habitat assessments and water quality. He also has experience with surface and groundwater sampling, hydrometric stations, and benthic macroinvertebrate sampling under CABIN protocols. Karl joins our Environmental Monitoring and Assessment group in our New Westminster office.
Michael Choi, Senior Manager, Mine Permitting – BSc Biochemistry
Michael has 24 years of environmental consulting experience related to contaminated sites, environmental impact assessment and mitigations, permitting, and operational planning covering many sectors including forestry, land development, mining, oil and gas, port facilities, transportation, government bodies (both municipal, provincial and federal) and Indigenous communities. As a technical expert, Michael has led numerous projects involving hydrology, hydrogeology and water quality. As a business leader, he has played an integral part in building and growing teams and developing new offices and sectors.. Michael joins our Water Resources group based out of our New Westminster office.
Tracy Pagenhardt, Environmental Technician – Diploma in Natural Resources Environmental Technology
Tracy brings eight years of broad experience in the environmental sector to Hatfield. She has previously worked as a field technician where she performed environmental monitoring to support species-at-risk projects, as well as a project coordinator on a stormwater mitigation project, and program coordinator and consultant for the solid waste industry. Tracy joins our Construction Monitoring team within our Infrastructure and Environmental Management group in our New Westminster office.

Teri Kaskie, Environmental Technician – Fish and Wildlife Technician Diploma
Teri has three years of experience as a junior biological technologist with a main focus on infrastructure projects, including working in remote areas. She has experience with wildlife monitoring, post construction monitoring surveys, environmental inspections, and environmental regulations related to infrastructure development projects. She joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management group in our Calgary office.
Fort McMurray, AB
Allison Pottie, Environmental Technician – BSc Environmental Science
Allison joins our Environmental Monitoring and Assessment group in Fort McMurray in a full-time permanent role following initially completing a co-op with Hatfield in 2019. Allison has experience with wildlife habitat assessments, wildlife identification, water sample collection for both surface and groundwater, and aquatic assessments and sampling including benthic invertebrates and fish collection.
Cassandra Bruce, Environmental Technician – BSc Biological Science
Cassandra joins our Environmental Monitoring and Assessment group in Fort McMurray in a full-time permanent role following initially working at Hatfield as a summer student in 2019 in our Calgary office. As a junior biologist, Cassandra has experience with organizing project plans, field data collection and data management.
Chantal Dings-Avery, Environmental Technician – MSc Biology
Chantal joins our Environmental Monitoring and Assessment group in Fort McMurray in a full-time permanent role following initially working at Hatfield in the fall of 2019 in a contract position. Chantal has experience with aquatics, water quality sampling, streamflow and hydrology assessments, and wildlife, amphibian, vegetation and bird surveys.
Christine Poulson, Environmental Specialist – MSc Environmental Management
Christine has returned to work with Hatfield after working as a Senior Regulatory Advisor for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, where she was the primary representative for municipal leadership and consultants in the broad-scope application of provincial and federal environmental regulations in operational and capital programs. We are very happy to have Christine back at Hatfield in our Infrastructure and Environmental Management group in Fort McMurray.
Lauren Whyte, Environmental Technician – BSc Environmental Engineering
Lauren has been involved with monitoring programs for storm water and stream flow, working with a variety of types of data loggers and sampling equipment in the field for data collection, and completing data analysis and reporting. Lauren joins our Water Resources group based out of our Fort McMurray office.

Sarah Poole, Environmental Specialist – MSc Environmental and Life Sciences
Sarah has over a decade of experience conducting long-term wildlife studies in the Yukon, Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and the Canadian Arctic. She has worked with clients in a variety of sectors, including forestry, oil and gas, provincial governments and First Nations governing bodies. Sarah joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management group based out of our office in Terrace, BC.
