Hatfield Consultants Africa (HCA) undertook a pilot project to extract digital topographic and elevation data products from stereo-high-resolution satellite imagery for Jwaneng Mine. The resulting data were used for volumetric and management analysis to assist with operational health and safety, and ore management at the mine site. The pilot project is currently being considered by Debswana for operational monitoring and management of stockpiles and waste-dumps across all operational mines in Botswana. The topographic data was extracted from 30 cm WorldView-3 imagery, and the elevation products were created by Terrabotics (UK), using a proprietary sub-pixel stereo correlation terrain analysis algorithm.
