Pioneer Earth Observation Applications for the Environment – Ecosystem Restoration
Client
European Space Agency
Location
Global
Project Duration
October 2022 – August 2024
Background
The aim is to develop innovative high-quality satellite Earth observation (EO) application products, indicators and methods, for ecosystem restoration, focusing on the needs of forest landscape restoration and wetland restoration initiatives around the world.
The project consortium prioritized the use of open EO data, developed the tools according to findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable (FAIR) principles, and followed a collaborative approach with ecosystem restoration “early adopters” including IUCN Vietnam, African Parks, Romania National Institute for Research and Development in Forestry, and the Society for Ecosystem Restoration in Northern British Columbia, Canada.
We developed ecosystem vegetation recovery and wetland function recovery analysis tools and completed demonstrations in Canada, Vietnam, Central African Republic, Finland, and Romania.
More information is available at PEOPLE ER – Earth observation for Ecosystem Restoration (people-er.info) including access to the Github pages providing access to the tools.
Services Provided
