What’s new in Impact Assessment? Managing uncertainty, and building confidence.
Jul 13, 2023
Proponents of major infrastructure projects in Canada know that federal and provincial impact assessment processes can make or break schedules and budgets. Understanding how to meet the requirements of the BC Environmental Assessment Act (2018) and the federal Impact Assessment Act (2019) is central to the successful planning of projects from day one. From impact significance on a spectrum, rather than a binary determination (i.e., significant vs. not), to an enhanced emphasis on assessment themes such as sustainability, Indigenous and community knowledge, and gender-based analysis plus, Hatfield is working with project proponents to manage uncertainty, introduce efficiencies, build trust, and enhance confidence in Impact Assessment conclusions.
Hatfield has developed an analysis of Federal and BC-specific impact assessment requirements and considerations for project proponents – What’s new in Impact Assessment? Managing uncertainty and building confidence.
We recently presented at the National Symposium on Cumulative Effects and Environmental Management, discussing the implications of regulatory change and assessment themes in Federal Impact Assessment.
Hatfield also published a Review of the Assessment of Positive Effects for the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada.
