Hatfield welcomes new staff in Vancouver, Fort McMurray and Calgary

It has been a busy start to the year, and we are thrilled to welcome new talented individuals to our various office locations across Canada! As one of BC’s Top Employers 2022, we couldn’t have achieved this without the exceptional team of people who make up Hatfield, and we look forward to continuing to grow and diversify our team throughout the year.
Joining our team in Vancouver:
Anne Webster, BSc Physics, MSc Physics, joins our Geomatics team as a Senior Remote Sensing Specialist. Anne has worked extensively in the space technology sector and brings with her a wealth of experience with optical and spectral remote sensing principles, including radiometric calibration, atmospheric compensation, and land and water applications. She also has substantial experience with machine learning, deep learning, as well as big data pipeline needs and frameworks.
Dana de Ugarte, BA Psychology, BSc Economic and Business Management, joins our team as an Administrative Assistant. Dana has a wealth of experience in office environment, including offering administrative support, resolving customer queries and complaints, and being the first point of contact for a company. Her combined background in business and psychology gives her a unique combination of skills highly valuable in our North Vancouver office environment.
Derek Kitt, BBA Human Resources Management, joins Hatfield as a Human Resources Manager. Derek has worked in numerous industries including technology, wholesale, retail, aviation, government, and forestry industries. He is a CPHR candidate with experience in onboarding, recruitment, union relations, collective agreement interpretation, diversity & inclusion, applicant tracking management, and policy creation.
Dustin Venhuizen, Diploma in Environmental Protection Technology, joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management Group as an Environmental Technician. Dustin’s experience ranges from environmental land management to the energy sector. He has experience writing technical reports for monitoring activities, testing of water samples, conducting vegetation inventories, assisting with field surveys, area mapping, processing rock core, and collecting soil samples.
Fariba Nazerian, BSc Commercial Economics, joins our Administrative Group as a Project Accountant. Fariba has a wealth of experience in many sectors including forestry, engineering, insurance, and customer service. Her skills include project accounting, invoicing, accounts payable, and month-end reconciliation and processing. She is also specialized in accounting, business mathematics, computerized accounting, and business information systems.
Jean Pouabou, BA Applied Science, joins our Digital Solutions Group as a Software Developer. Jean comes to Hatfield with extensive experience in application development, designing, testing, and customizing applications including e-commerce and enterprise resource planning systems. He is excellent at determining project scope and working with clients for integration, installation, training, and troubleshooting applications.
Jessica Warrack, BE Chemical Engineering, MEng Civil Engineering, joins our Water Resources Group as a Junior Water Resources Specialist. Jessica has a background in engineering consulting and hydrologic modelling. During her Masters, she participated in a field sampling campaign where she collected hydrogen sulfide samples from abandoned oil and gas wells. She also had the opportunity to present the results of data analysis at the 2021 European Geosciences Union.
Kevin Chuang, BBA Accounting, joins our Administrative Group as an Accounts Payable Specialist. Kevin has considerable experience in accounting, including managing accounts payable, accounts receivables, journal entries, invoicing, financial audits, and company tax document preparation for income tax submission. He is currently pursuing his CPA professional accounting designation.
Lucy MacKenzie, PhD Geography, joins our Water Resource Group as a Hydrologist. Lucy has over a decade of experience as an environmental scientist. Her postdoctoral research consisted of historical flood and geomorphic change analysis in the Kettle River watershed in British Columbia. Other projects she has worked on cover topics from glacial geomorphology to channel stability analyses, stream restoration, and alluvial fan dynamics.
Marcos Kavlin, BSc Forestry, MSc Forestry, joins our Geomatics Group as a Remote Sensing Analyst. Marcos has worked extensively in natural resources conservation, and brings with him a depth of experience using Python, GIS, working with large remote sensing datasets, analyzing Landsat and Sentinel imagery, developing forest models, and deep learning.
Marissa Hicks, BA Criminology, joins our Desktop Publishing Team as a Document Production Specialist. Marissa has a background in a wide range of areas including marketing, events, and promotions. Her experience includes formatting proposal bids, proofreading, use of Acrobat DC, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. She has a passion for being creative as well as for finite details.
Sam Wolf, BA Geography and Environmental Studies, joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management Group as an Environmental Specialist. Sam has experience in environmental monitoring for building and road construction projects, including environmental and spill response inspections, emergency spill response, and management of contaminated soil and water. He also is skilled in field data collection and methods for sampling media that includes soil, sediment, surface water, etc.
Sarah Whitehouse, MSc Environmental Science, Policy and Management, joins our Water Resources Group as a Senior Permitting Specialist. Sarah has an extensive background in environmental coordination including permitting and compliance for relevant water and effluent-related permits, licenses, and regulations, oversight of the water quality monitoring programs, ML/ARD characterization, environmental data management, and associated regulatory reporting and applications.
Tahereh Boloori, PhD Environmental and Life Sciences, joins our Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Group as an Environmental Specialist. Tahereh’s PhD focused on the toxic effects of multiple mixtures of metals discharged from urban, agricultural, and mining industry into aquatic environments and the cumulative impact of multiple contaminants. She recently completed her post-doc as the principal investigator for aquatic toxicology research of oil spills and surrounding response measures.
Joining our team in Fort McMurray:
Babar Javed, PhD Soil Science, joins our Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Group as an Environmental Specialist. Babar also has experience as a geochemist, as well as working on projects in industry and academia. His focus has been on resolving natural versus anthropogenic contamination by applying state-of-the-art techniques. He has experience dealing with contamination of river water, municipal wastewater, oil sands process-affected water, snow, dust in snow, soil, sediments, and suspended solids.
Bradley Stuart has a diploma in Environmental Engineering & Technology in Wastewater and Water Management. He joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management Group as an Environmental Technician. Bradley has experience in environmental consulting, water quality testing, aquatic biology, marine biology, air quality, remediation, soil and water testing, and working in the fisheries sector.
Jesse Shenton, BSc Biology, joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management Group as an Environmental Technician. Jesse completed an honours thesis on the mating preferences of female Jamaican Field Crickets. Throughout his career, he has gained experience with horizontal directional drill aquatics monitoring, fish and amphibian salvages, beaver management, dam removal, and reclamation inspections. He is passionate about wildlife protection and sustainability in infrastructure projects.
Jordan Hromyk, BSc Environmental Science, joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management Group as an Environmental Technician. Jordan has experience in the coal and iron mining industry, oil field reclamation, and vegetation management. He is highly experienced in wildlife, plant, and soil identification in the field, as well as in aquatic ecosystems and their management.
Lenny Hansen joins Hatfield as an Equipment Coordinator. Lenny is deeply passionate about his community and giving back. His goal is to inspire other aboriginal youth to work in environment and conservation. Over the years, he has helped set-up and organize workshops in various Indigenous communities in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo regarding the status of the Ronald Lake Bison Herd.
Mitchell Noel, BSc Environmental Science, joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management Group as an Environmental Technician. Mitchell has worked in the mining, vegetation management, and recreation sectors. He has experience collecting soil samples, water samples, plant identification surveys, and helping with monitoring programs.
Rocky Borrelli, BSc Native Studies, and Environmental and Conservation Sciences, joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management Group as an Environmental Technician. Rocky has worked in the energy sector, oil fields, and in vegetation management. He has experience in wildlife, vegetation, invasive species, soil collection, and borehole logging, as well as with performing detailed field assessments in watercourses and wetlands.
Sheldon Macleod, Diploma in Land Reclamation and Remediation, joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management Group as an Environmental Technician. Sheldon has worked in vegetation management, engineering consulting, and oilfield servicing. He has experience with soil identification and sampling, groundwater monitoring and sampling, environmental and geotechnical drill and core sampling and surface water turbidity monitoring.
Travis Baxter, Diploma in Environmental Technology, joins our Infrastructure and Environmental Management Group as an Environmental Technician. Travis has a wealth of experience in the environmental sector as a construction monitor, a field technician, a geotechnical technician, and a geotechnical technologist. In addition, he has experience with oil sands, water quality and filtration, GIS, geotechnical testing, forestry surveying, soil classification, and wildlife management.
Joining our team in Calgary:
Vaughn Kachanoski, BSc Environmental Science, joins as a Manager in our Infrastructure and Environmental Management Group. As a senior aquatic biologist, Vaughn has worked in a wide range of federal government and private industry fisheries-related positions. His experience being a field technician, researcher, federal regulator, compliance inspector, project manager and discipline lead on major projects has allowed him to develop the skills needed to successfully execute projects with aquatic sensitivities.
