Hatfield develops environmental monitoring plan for the Joslyn North Mine project
Dec 21, 2011
With its second major project for Total E&P Canada Ltd., Hatfield Alberta continues to expand its construction and operational monitoring services in the oil sands sector.
Hatfield Alberta is developing the Environmental Monitoring Plan (EMP) for the early works component of the Joslyn North Mine Project, located 70 km north of Fort McMurray, for Total E&P Canada Ltd.
The EMP covers the construction and operation of a number of sedimentation ponds for intercepting flows produced from muskeg dewatering, overburden dewatering, and drainage from overburden storage areas and reclamation material storage areas, prior to release into the receiving environment (Ells River, Joslyn Creek and tributaries) as part of the Joslyn North Mine Project, a 50,000 bpd oil sands mine and extraction facility. The EMP for the Project provides general and site-specific measures for mitigating potentially harmful effects to environmentally-sensitive resources located within and downstream of the settling pond locations. Guidance for environmental management practices and activities is driven by applicable environmental legislation, regulations, standards and best management practices (BMPs) which will be adhered to throughout the duration of the Project.
Hatfield established an office in Fort McMurray in 2003 and in Calgary in 2010 in order to serve our growing client base in Alberta. Hatfield’s Alberta offices are supported by personnel from our head office in Vancouver, B.C.
