The Environmental Managers Association of BC (EMA of BC) hosted their annual workshop on March 5 in downtown Vancouver, where Hatfield Environmental Manager and Associate Partner Amber Ashenhurst presented on “How to Get to Yes with Clients and Government.” The focus of Amber’s talk was on managing project stakeholder expectations in a major project by engaging people early, setting clear expectations and being transparent, being prepared to both negotiate and defend your decisions, and always being respectful and kind. This strategy proved success as Amber navigated the environmental regulatory complexities of BC Hydro’s John Hart Generating Station Project through 16 federal and provincial contractor-specific permits and over 75 science-based reports. Her work resulted in two EMA of BC awards in 2017 and 2018, and she was a finalist in the Women’s Infrastructure Network Emerging Leader category in 2019.
