At A Glance

Hatfield is one of western Canada’s leading environmental consultancies, and recognized as one of Canada’s Top SME Employers in 2025. We are Canadian owner‐operated, providing multidisciplinary services in environmental and social sciences to advance sustainable development in Canada and internationally. Hatfield is recognized for our innovative, science‐based approach to solutions that address the needs of our clients. We work collaboratively and respectfully with clients and partner organizations and support the professional goals and development of our employees. Our Indonesia and Botswana operations are supported by local ownership that actively engages in corporate and technical leadership.

Our Legacy

Founded in 1974 by Chris Hatfield, Hatfield was built from a passion for biology, science, and the environment. With the team based out of North Vancouver, Hatfield began as a small company making big waves within the environmental consulting industry, in BC and worldwide. We recently celebrated our 50th anniversary, read more about  our history.

With a focus on high quality, impactful, and ethical work, Hatfield has grown into one of the largest independent, Canadian-owned environmental companies in western Canada. With over 250 employees, Hatfield operates from eight office locations including North Vancouver, New Westminster, Terrace, Fort St. John, Calgary, Fort McMurray, as well as international offices in Indonesia and Botswana. Our continuing success is a testament to our people, and we are proud of the company we have become today.

Our Clients

Within Canada, Hatfield provides environmental and social services for private sector clients in the pulp and paper, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, transportation and municipal infrastructure, forestry, agriculture, and fisheries and aquaculture sectors, as well as for public sector, non-governmental organizations, and Indigenous communities. Internationally, Hatfield works closely with international development agencies, multilateral funding agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs), and industrial partners. We specialize in undertaking complex, multi-disciplinary projects, often in collaboration with networks of local experts and specialists in particular fields. Our work strives to provide cost-effective, sustainable solutions to our clients’ environmental and social needs.
