Background:
The Salish Sea Indigenous Guardians Association (SSIGA) is an Indigenous-led, not-for-profit organization representing Semiahmoo, Kwantlen, and Tsawwassen First Nations. SSIGA is dedicated to addressing the cumulative impacts of human activity on the Salish Sea, with a focus on protecting Indigenous rights to access traditional marine food sources. Through collaborative and community-driven approaches, SSIGA works to revitalize traditional practices, restore ecosystems, and support Indigenous governance and stewardship across their shared territory.
Services Provided:
Hatfield provides project management, facilitation, and technical expertise to advance Indigenous-led stewardship in the Salish Sea. We support SSIGA in advancing key program objectives related to food security and cumulative effects assessment with technical and project management expertise in environmental monitoring and human health risk assessment. Our work contributes to long-term efforts aimed at reestablishing safe access to traditional food sources. Hatfield is helping to lead the implementation of pioneering work in Indigenous-Led Cumulative Effects Assessments (IL-CEA) in the Salish Sea and beyond.
