Hatfield’s Human Environment Group has interests and experience in a wide range of social science and related projects and research including social, health and economic impact assessments; community and Indigenous engagement; Indigenous knowledge studies, socio-economics, resource management and modernized land use planning; social determinants of health; gender studies; and climate change impacts, risk assessment and adaptation. We are seeking a mid-career professional to join our team. A graduate degree in a social science or related discipline is preferred, although we also value an equivalent combination of education and experience.
We are looking for a team-player with strong technical skills in social science and/or related disciplines. We need you to be a great (or at least very good!) writer and communicator, to be well organized, client focused, and solutions-oriented. A good sense of humour is an asset.

Responsibilities:
In this role, you will work independently and with teams of social and environmental professionals on a variety of projects, across multiple sectors, and with a broad range of clients. You will provide technical expertise and contribute to the delivery of projects and to business development and the preparation of proposals. Your activities will include supporting or, where appropriate, leading:
- Research design and implementation;
- Data analysis and report writing;
- Proposal development;
- Planning, organization, and delivery of stakeholder and Indigenous engagement processes and activities;
- Networking and business development.
Other Assets/Skills:
- Technical ability in the preparation and delivery of social science research including research design, data collection, compilation and analysis;
- Excellence in technical report writing and other forms of written communication (e.g., training materials or community outreach);
- Excellent oral communication skills (e.g., networking, facilitation, and community engagement skills);
- Strong organizational and critical thinking skills;
- Inquisitive and entrepreneurial;
- Open to potential travel, including internationally, and occasional work in remote locations and communities as required.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree or combination of education and equivalent experience in social science or related field;
- 4+ years’ of related work experience;
- Background or experience in one or more social science or interdisciplinary fields (e.g., sociology, land use planning, economics, public health, gender studies, anthropology, geography, international studies, natural resource management, or similar);
- Experience working with or within government agencies, Indigenous communities and/or international development organizations, or other third party or non-government organizations;
- Experience operating in a dynamic environment that requires flexibility and teamwork;
- Experience working to deadlines and within budgets.
