TerraSAR-X

Overview

The new German radar satellite, TerraSAR-X, is the first in a series of high-resolution radar satellites developed by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Infoterra GmbH.

TerraSAR-X offers image resolutions up to 1m, single and dual polarization, and all weather radar imaging capabilities. TerraSAR-X was launched on June 15, 2007 from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Applications include:

  • Land cover/ land use mapping.
  • Flood mapping.
  • Wetland mapping.
  • Agriculture monitoring.
  • Topographic base-mapping.
  • Spatial planning.

Image Product Specifications

A detailed product guide is available ; the following are the most commonly used products:

  • Spotlight – up to 1 m resolution and ideal for very detailed mapping;
  • StripMap – up to 3 m resolution and ideal for detailed mapping over larger areas; and
