Overview
The new German radar satellite, TerraSAR-X, is the first in a series of high-resolution radar satellites developed by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Infoterra GmbH.
TerraSAR-X offers image resolutions up to 1m, single and dual polarization, and all weather radar imaging capabilities. TerraSAR-X was launched on June 15, 2007 from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
Applications include:
- Land cover/ land use mapping.
- Flood mapping.
- Wetland mapping.
- Agriculture monitoring.
- Topographic base-mapping.
- Spatial planning.

- StripMap – up to 3 m resolution and ideal for detailed mapping over larger areas; and
- ScanSAR – up to 16 m resolution and useful for mapping over larger areas
